About

Hi, I’m Malinda Burks! It’s hard for me to talk about myself, whether that be in writing or speech, I have always been altruistic. Helping and putting others before myself and seeing them gaiety with joy is ultimately what I live for and the drive of my love of film and writing. I have seen the power words can have and the potency of positive messaging and representation in media.
I was born in Indiana, specifically, Gary Indiana. I come from poverty and second-rate houses and pothole-ridden streets. I have seen my mother, who was a single parent work hard and push through barriers, with self-determination and was able to fulfill her passion to be in the medical field. She was inspired to be in by simply watching Tv shows like "St. Elsewhere" where one of the main charters was a prominent black doctor when she was younger.
Seeing how TV shows and movies can help inspire thousands and millions of people and give voices to the marginalized and the people forgotten in our society, which can help break down barriers and pave roads for others through this art form is the raison d'être of my life.
I am looking forward to all the ways I can help others through my films and writings and really make a positive mark on this world, with the help of my friends, family, and The Honor Society!

Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is as a film director and screenwriter.

Outside the classroom

I absolutely love to write and get all my creative ideas and stories on paper! Writing has given me a voice and helped me find happiness in myself and in life. I often write novels and short stories, my favorites genre being horror, specifically Lovecraftian and gothic fiction.
I have a very special place in my heart for music, in fact, music gives me my inspiration for writing. I love to play the Tuba and write my own songs for my instrument.
