About

My name is Nancy Floriano and I am a student at Arizona State University completing my Masters in Social Work. I am the first in my family to attend college and earn a degree. I plan in majoring in Macro Social Work to be able to continue to make a change. I have experience working with youth, but I want to be able to work with refugees and see what I can do to help them.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am currently working at an Independent Living Program through Child Crisis Arizona. I work with youth in helping them obtain the life skills needed to become independent. I am also interning at Catholic Charities working with refugee youth in helping them obtain life skills. For both of these programs, I look for housing and other services they need to be successful. Obtaining my masters in social work, I want to be able to work in a macro level where I can make changes that will help the youth especially the ones that are homeless and are refugees since there are not enough services to help them out.

Graduate school interests

In being a social work, I enjoy being able to work with people and seeing how the smallest goal a person achieves is satisfying. Knowing that I helped them in someway by providing motivation or filling out an application can make a difference. When I let them know I noticed that they did something on their own, it shows by the response or reaction they get. Going into Macro Social Work, motivates me in continuing to make a change but in bigger way. Whether is fighting towards making a change in a policy or providing awareness of issues that are going on, it helps to know that I am doing something to make that change. I want to continue to fight towards the rights that everyone has and make a change in society.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy drawing when I have some free time and doing arts and crafts like decorating. I also enjoy listening to music and spending time with my family by going hiking, to the park, and traveling to new places.
