About

As a graduate student at Regis University, I am studying Human Resource Management and am about a year from graduating. I am seeking internship opportunities to gain experience and further develop my skills from theory to practice. My career journey has been marked by adaptability and a passion for learning more about people and processes. This journey was not haphazard but a series of highly intentional career transitions. I strategically moved from fifteen years as a dental assistant in private practice and the military to a role as a case manager in the social work field after completing my undergraduate degree, where I helped veterans and underserved populations access dental care at a non-profit. It was always my plan to complete my graduate studies. Now that I am almost done, I am looking for a place to add value and find meaning in my work.

Goals and interests

Career goal

As I progress in my HR studies, I find myself increasingly drawn to the pillars of HR that encompass people and processes. Given my background in psychology and healthcare, this is not just an academic interest but a personal one. I am particularly excited about training and development, performance management, and employee relations. My long-term goal is to move towards the organizational development realm.

Graduate school interests

Since pursuing my graduate studies, I have been working on and figuring out what I am successful at and what challenges I face personally and professionally. For example, in my personal life, I enjoy physical challenges, such as hiking, and all things outdoors or indoors, such as yoga or strength or endurance training. Similarly, in my professional life, I gravitate towards mental challenges, such as researching a topic and finding a solution to the problem, then presenting the data creatively to engage and motivate individuals (stakeholders). Personally and professionally, I struggle with several areas involved in emotional intelligence and excel in others, such as motivation, empathy, and social skills. In contrast, I am actively working on the areas that are slightly behind in my everyday interactions with family, friends, and colleagues.

Outside the classroom

I strive to be well-rounded and enjoy activities that enrich my mind, body, and spirit. I thrive in physical challenges such as yoga, cycling, and jogging. I am a self-proclaimed book and information nerd, deeply engrossed in reading and staying updated on current events. I love reading articles or listening to podcasts about current events. I subscribe to many professional newsletters or other media sources, such as the Harvard Business Review, NPR, or HR Brew. Lastly, I am a foodie who loves traveling, cooking, and playing board games with friends and family.

Volunteering

  • As a parent, I understand the importance of my children seeing me actively involved in their education. I've been there from the early days, decorating the gym for dances and chaperoning field trips. Now that they're older, I've adapted my involvement, volunteering for activities like judging speech and debate tournaments and assistant coaching for track and field or cross country.
