Goals and interests

Career goal

Psychotherapist
- Assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment plans for clients.
- Working one-on-one with clients diagnosed with mental health disorders to assist in the management of their symptoms and provide coping skills and techniques to alleviate the negative impacts of the disorders.
Future goals (Professional)
- Provide clients with psychotherapy services to improve their overall quality of life and become a key member of their support team within individual psychotherapy sessions.
- Work in an environment that promotes personal and professional growth.
- Branch out on my own and open my own practice.
- Engage with a wide variety of clientele that represents all walks of life.
- Collaborate with an array of co-workers with different backgrounds and specialties to obtain a comprehensive understanding of treatment options for clients.
- Observe direct or indirect results of the treatment plan designed for each client.
- Provide individuals with a relaxed and judgment-free environment where they feel comfortable disclosing personal information.
These goals align with my values and life themes because I have made a commitment to engage in meaningful work that has a significant impact on others and transform their lives. Growing up was a difficult journey for me, but therapy helped me grow and heal from these challenges. I want to give back to the field and help as many people reach this level of peace in their lives.

Outside the classroom

(1) Painting: This activity allows me to express my creativity and imagination. This reveals my strengths of persistence, attention to detail, and originality.
(2) Gardening: This activity taught me patience and learning from your mistakes. I learn new lessons each season regarding plants, soil preferences, techniques, and tactics. This reveals my strengths, such as resilience, determination, adaptability, and perseverance.
(3) Home Projects: This activity indulges my desire to design and build the perfect home with my fiancé. I love interior designing and enjoy switching the house around or updating our furniture. This reveals my strengths in areas such as decision-making, communication, and teamwork.

Experience

  • Bartender

Lone Star Café Inc, Chesapeake, VA During the ten years of employment with this company, I have learned how to engage in effective communication in various high-stress level situations involving individuals with vastly different personalities. To resolve conflict between coworkers and patrons, I actively listen to both parties of the conflict and attempt to determine a solution that both parties are willing to agree with. My main goals at work are to maintain a positive and cohesive environment, ensure the safety and well-being of the patrons, and satisfy all of the patrons’ needs.
