Goals and interests

Career goal

I am a Sociology major at California State University, Chico and a first-generation college student committed to academic excellence and community impact. My educational journey has been shaped by perseverance, discipline, and a strong desire to better understand and address social inequalities.

Through my studies in sociology and psychology, I have developed strong analytical, research, and interpersonal skills that allow me to better understand human behavior and the social systems that shape individual and community outcomes. These disciplines have strengthened my ability to approach complex social issues with empathy, critical thinking, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

In addition to my academic work, I have been actively involved in community service through organizations such as KCAO and Early Head Start, where I have supported efforts to provide essential resources to underserved populations. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to service and deepened my understanding of the importance of accessible support systems.

I intend to pursue a career path that integrates sociology and psychology, working in roles that support individuals and communities through advocacy, social services, or mental health support. My long-term goal is to contribute to creating more equitable systems and improving the well-being of underserved populations.

My achievements reflect a commitment to growth, resilience, and service, and I am driven to use my education to make a meaningful and lasting impact.

Graduate school interests

I am interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology at Arizona State University to further develop my academic and professional foundation. ASU’s strong emphasis on research, innovation, and social impact aligns closely with my goals of deepening my understanding of social inequality, human behavior, and community systems.

Through graduate study, I hope to expand my knowledge in areas that intersect sociology and psychology, while strengthening my research and analytical skills. I am particularly interested in programs that emphasize applied sociology and community engagement, as I aim to translate academic knowledge into real-world solutions.

Attending ASU would provide me with the opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives, engage in meaningful research, and prepare for a career focused on advocacy, social services, or community-based work. Ultimately, my goal in pursuing graduate education is to enhance my ability to contribute to positive social change and improve outcomes for underserved populations.

Volunteering

  • As Vice President at KCAO, I played a leadership role in supporting community outreach initiatives aimed at assisting underserved populations. I helped coordinate and oversee food distribution efforts, ensuring that services were organized, efficient, and accessible to those in need. My responsibilities included guiding volunteers, assisting with planning and logistics, and maintaining a respectful and supportive environment during community events. In this role, I strengthened my leadership, communication, and organizational skills while gaining valuable experience in community service and program coordination. This position deepened my commitment to serving others and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
