About
Yemaya Lundy is a business major with an accounting minor at the University of Houston–Clear Lake, maintaining a strong academic record while remaining deeply committed to community service and leadership. She aspires to become a CPA and pursue graduate studies, including an MBA, with the goal of using accounting as a tool for empowerment, accessibility, and ethical leadership.
For over a decade, Yemaya has actively served her community by helping individuals self-prepare their taxes, ensuring that those with limited access to financial resources are able to navigate complex systems with confidence. Her dedication to service extends beyond finance through her role as a church chaplain, where she provides guidance and support to individuals and families during times of transition and hardship. She also volunteers as a dance instructor at the Johnny Mitchell Boys and Girls Club in Galveston, using creative expression to help youth build confidence, discipline, and self-esteem.
Yemaya’s journey is defined by resilience and purpose. After surviving a triple brain aneurysm rupture in 2017, she returned to higher education and earned her first degree in 2020, an achievement that strengthened her resolve and clarified her mission to serve others through leadership and education. Inspired by her grandfather, the first Black accountant of his time in his community—whose impact was honored through the naming of Brown Street—Yemaya is committed to carrying forward a legacy of integrity, service, and community advocacy. Through academic excellence and sustained service, she continues to lead with compassion, perseverance, and purpose.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I intend to pursue a career in accounting with the goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and earning an MBA through graduate study. My long-term objective is to work in professional accounting while remaining deeply engaged in community-based financial advocacy. I am particularly interested in tax preparation and advisory services that help individuals, families, and small businesses navigate financial systems with confidence and clarity.
My career path is shaped by over a decade of hands-on experience assisting community members with self-preparing their taxes, which has shown me how access to accurate financial information can significantly impact financial stability. I aim to combine technical expertise with ethical leadership, ensuring that my work not only meets professional standards but also serves the broader community with integrity and compassion.
Ultimately, I aspire to follow in the legacy of my grandfather, one of the first Black accountants in his community, by building a career that balances professional excellence with meaningful service. Through CPA certification and advanced education, I plan to contribute to the accounting profession while empowering others through financial literacy, advocacy, and trusted guidance.
- Graduate school interests
I am interested in pursuing graduate studies to deepen my expertise in accounting and business leadership while preparing for CPA certification. Earning an MBA represents an essential step in strengthening my technical knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical framework, allowing me to serve individuals and communities at a higher professional level. Graduate school will equip me with advanced tools in financial analysis, taxation, and strategic decision-making that are critical to my long-term goals.
My motivation for graduate study is rooted in both experience and resilience. After surviving a triple brain aneurysm rupture in 2017 and returning to earn my first degree in 2020, I approach education with gratitude, discipline, and purpose. My undergraduate studies at the University of Houston–Clear Lake have reinforced my commitment to accounting as a career grounded in service, accuracy, and integrity. Graduate education will allow me to build upon this foundation and translate knowledge into meaningful impact.
Through graduate school, I aim to expand my ability to advocate for financial literacy and ethical accounting practices, particularly for individuals and small businesses with limited access to professional resources. An MBA will prepare me to lead responsibly, mentor others, and continue a legacy of community-centered accounting. Advanced education is not only a professional goal for me—it is a commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and service.
