Ever Long Learner

Jun 19,2017

In December 2008 I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree, at that time I figured I was done with school.  Seven years later, I am back at it again!  This time I was going for my M.Ed. in Special Education with a concentration in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis.  I graduated with my M.Ed. in December 2016 and for sure I thought I was finished with school again.  All I had to do was complete my BCBA supervision hours and take the exam and be on my way to a new adventure.  Turns out I still was not done with my schooling.  I am now pursuing my Principal Certification!  My goal right now is to achieve my BCBA certification and my Principal Certification by the end of this upcoming school year!

My original notion that you are done with schooling as soon as you get that degree you have been working so hard for has dramatically changed since I have been on this journey of higher level education.  It turns out, you never truly quite learning and all though you may have the degree, it must accompany the experience to be truly wholesome.  Even with the degree and the experience, you are still learning how to improve your craft in whatever job field you may be in.  I have chosen the teaching field, more specifically special education.

Through teaching there are always new techniques and strategies that can be learned to teach to the whole child.  In special education, you have to be creative in your ways of presenting academic and even daily living and vocational skills in order for your instruction to be meaningful to your students.  You will always be learning how to make your classroom more interesting to your students, how to improve your communication skills, how to better manage behavior without getting too stress out, and how to incorporate more inclusive and differentiated lesson plans.  Not only do you learn how to improve the material factors of teaching but you also learn how that you grow as an individual as you realize you have impacted the lives of several students in just one year.

Through the Honor Society you can find guidance and support for whatever path you choose to take on your journey of high level education.  Featured articles, orientation, Honor Society TV, and Scholarships, you can find how you will become a life long learner as well.  You can even conduct a job search through the Honor Society website to attain the experience you will need to continue to grow.  I wish you all much luck and good fortune on your future endeavors of becoming a life long learner.
