Five Tips On How To Stay Productive When You Are Doing School At Home.

Aug 14,2020

As the pandemic continues to move along, many students are now having to deal with doing school at home for the first time. As someone who has been homeschooled since middle school, here is a list of top 5 tips on how to stay productive as you navigate the school year.

Tip #1: Get Dressed!

Many of you may be tempted to just roll out of bed and jump into your schoolwork, but trust me it is better to get ready for the day. I am not saying you should get all made up, you are at home so you don’t need to do your makeup or put on an elaborate outfit. You should though get out of your pajamas and change into some comfortable but day time clothes then brush your teeth and comb your hair. Doing these normal tasks will help you get into the mindset of hey let’s start the day and get your blood flowing since you are used to doing these actions before school.

Tip #2: Don’t do your schoolwork in your bed!

According to an article written by ACHS Holistic Health and Wellness Blog written by Brian Robben, doing your schoolwork in bed can limit your focus, decrease productivity, and limit how well you will sleep. You should sit upright somewhere that is quiet to do your schoolwork. I would say at a desk is the best place mainly since that is what most of you are used to doing. Although if your house is too loud, you can always go to a coffee shop or library that is open to work on your schoolwork.

Tip #3: Make sure you eat breakfast and lunch!

This may seem like a no brainer, but I know some of you are thinking back to what you ate before dinner yesterday and only can remember snacking on Cheetos all day. A lot of people think well I have all day to eat lunch or breakfast but it is better to get on a schedule and keep it. Eating at the same time every day will help you keep some normalcy to your school day. Eating breakfast at the start of the day will give you enough energy to start your schoolwork and eating lunch will give you enough to finish it. Plus while school is important, your health is more important and it isn’t healthy to not eat a full meal until dinner time. Remember, you won’t have enough energy to do your schoolwork if all you have is chips during the day.

Tip #4: Put your phone in silent mode!

Not only are you out of school but so is the rest of your friends which means they will be calling and texting you a lot during the day. While you may want to just gossip with Jenny over the phone or FaceTime Danny, you have school work to do and that needs to take priority. To avoid temptation, it is best to put your phone in silent mode. This way if you need your phone to email your teacher about something or need to use a calculator app then you have your phone ready to go. After you are done with school, you will have all afternoon to chat and hang out.

Tip #5: Don’t procrastinate!

Even though you are at home and don’t have someone standing above you the whole day, it is better to get your work done early than wait until later. If you wait until night to do your work, you will rush through it and you will be too tired to do well on your work. If you don’t take time to learn your lessons now what will happen when you have a test to take? How about the SATs? To you, it may seem like this year doesn’t matter but it does. You need to stay motivated and focus on getting your schoolwork done. With your given assignment list, start knocking out each assignment one by one and before you know it, you will be done. You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm so get started your schoolwork early in the day.
