Igor's blog

I am Igor from Dominican Republic, I also speak French and some Japanese. During July 2010, I attended the Fulbright English Refinement for Graduate Studies Course (from July 19 to August 6) at Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. This was a three-week Pre-Academic Program that focused in providing us graduate professionals with the academic skills and the tools to ensure our success in Academic life and to help us become more familiar with graduate student life, thus more aware of interculturalism.

My scholarly activities began in 2003 when I enrolled in the BA in Music Theory and Education at UASD, Dominican Republic. Four and a half years later, I achieved the culmination of these studies by writing a collaborative Thesis about the Changes in the rhythmic, harmonic, melodic, formal, instrumental structure and semantics of Dominican Merengue during the 1990-2006 period.

I enjoy being involved in music-research activities to present, preserve, and promote different music genres worldwide, while being involved in the teaching-learning process in order to transmit my acquired knowledge and experiences to future generations. The more you teach and the more you write, the better you get at it.

In August 2010, I began studying a two-year Master's of Music program at Bowling Green State University, which is located in the town of Bowling Green, Ohio. I graduated with the defense of my thesis about Mexican Restaurants: Spaces for Music Commoditization.

Another one of my areas of interest is English teaching to native Spanish speakers. I believe that in the current society we are living in, we ought to understand the value and importance of Education as well as its application.

In the future, I plan to continue to pursue my musical, educational, and research activities in order to contribute to the fields of education, music, arts, and culture.

Music, education, and arts are my soul and my passion!
