Member Spotlight Scholarship
Jun 16,2017
Background:
I was adopted at the age of 5 and come from a single parent household where I was raised by my paternal grandmother. I am a first generation college student, the middle child, and unfortunately, the only one out of my immediate family who has not succumbed to the life of drugs. I chose learning and academics. I chose to be different.
Hobbies:
I love to go fishing with my grandma. When I am not fishing I am either playing the piano, spending time with my 5 cats and 2 dogs, photographing nature, traveling, learning random facts, volunteering at the Central DeWitt Performing Arts Theater, or helping others.

My academic achievements:
In May of 2012, I graduated a year early from Northeast Alternative High School, located in Goose Lake, Iowa. From August 2012 to December of 2015, I attended Muscatine Community College, located in Muscatine, Iowa. Upon receiving my Associate of Science and Associate of Art Degrees, I decided to pursue my Bachelor of Liberal Studies at the University of Iowa in the Fall of 2016. My major areas of study include Sustainability and Wind Energy. I am currently involved with HonorSociety.org, Golden Key International Honour Society, Phi Theta Kappa, and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Upon receiving my bachelors degree, I would like to continue on at the University of Iowa to receive my master's degree in Geographical and Sustainability Sciences along with a second master's degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
In addition to my previous academic achievements, I have recently been selected as the Member Spotlight Scholarship Recipient for HonorSociety.org. This scholarship will help me to receive the education I need to complete my degree. More importantly, this scholarship has empowered and inspired me to grow as an individual. The money received will be used for tuition fees and books needed for the 2017-2018 academic year. I would also like to thank my dear grandmother, Joy Mangler, for influencing, motivating, and believing in me all of my life. Without her, I would not nearly be as successful as I am today.
