Membership to Honor Society

Sep 21,2016

The first thing I did when I joined HonorSociety.org was completing my profile.  I excitedly explored the website and all the benefits this community had to offer especially the dining cards as I often running 100 mph through my day and the treat of eating out is one of my "guilty" pleasures.  Then, I applied for all the scholarships available to me at the time.  Okay, it did not happen exactly like that, but it was my best intention.  Instead, I partially completed my profile as I was yet unsure of where I would be attending school in the fall and I felt my transcript was out of date as it has been 10 years since I have been in school and I wanted to post the summer transcript along with my older transcripts to give a more accurate account of how I was progressing thus far.

I took 12 credit hours this summer with courses including public speaking, anthropology, music appreciation and math.  It was a blast being back in school and interacting with my fellow students, instructors and being on campus.  I am an adult student with the a young heart; I only wish I had the same drive 20 years ago.  I neglected my membership due to the time constraints of school, family and running my small business, but I am here now, back at it.

I have filled out many scholarships thus far, but most of them feel like you are buying a lottery ticket just hoping to win as the number of applicants is enormous.  I like standing out in the crowd as it causes me to be pushed out of my comfort zone, but still the task is intimidating.  The scholarships offered at Honor Society are catered to students with like minds and aspirations which I appreciate and the number of students apply is diminished by comparison to many of the larger scholarship opportunities.

I would advise anyone who joins Honor Society to get involved as soon as possible to take advantage of the numerous benefits offered.  If it takes a little more time than you hoped, give yourself a brake, but make it a priority.  It does not take long to reap a host of benefits.
