My Internship Experience

To start off, I am a biology major. With the following of minors, math and chemistry. My internship this summer is very different. What I want to do in life somewhat compare, but not as similar. I want to become an Oncologist, or a Traveling Oncology Nurse. My mom inspired me to assist with cancer patients. She's my motivation because she passed away five years ago with lung and brain cancer. First she had lung cancer; the cancer altered to the brain some months later. I've looked at variety of internships that has information about all cancers. I have a desire for learning accurate information about cancer. My internship is research on how and why cancer develop in a different area after someone had survived. This research lab is mainly speaking about prostate cancer. Prostate cancer usually alter to the bone marrow, once someone survive. They're similar cases like, lung or breast cancer usual alter to the brain. (I've just learned this) I am learning so much about the tools and what it is used for. Moreover, I seen them passage prostate cells, breast cancer cells, or lunch cancer cells into a flask. Researchers have to passage cells at least 1-3 days. Also, they're a lot of steps and precautions. Indeed, this is also my first intern and research program. I have seen how the researchers interacted with one another. The researchers do not talk as much. They stay busy 24/7 and they do not leave for a while. I usually come 8-8:30 in the morning and they'll be there before I get there. I'll usually leave around 5 in the afternoon and they are still present. I am gaining more experience, meeting different individuals, and meeting different doctors. I am not use to the environment as well. I've realized that the researchers work as hard as a Oncology doctor. I can actually say they are dedicated to their job. This have been a wonderful experience so far and I have some weeks to go!!!
