R.I.P. Amy Francis-Joyer
Apr 28,2016
On Thursday 21st, 2016 the world lost a beautiful person, who was taken away from the world way too soon. Amy Francis-Joyer was just sixteen years old when she was beaten to death in the girl’s bathroom at her High school; Wilmington Howard High School of Technology. According to family and friends Joyer was an honor-student who always wore a smile on her face and was an outstanding figure in both her school and community. Friends say that she didn’t like to fight and on the day of her death she went in the bathroom to try and talk things out with alleged girl she was fighting with. This whole thing started over a guy between Joyer and another girl; things began to escalate as more girls came and proceeded to jump Amy. Amy’ was beaten violent several times in addition to her head being slammed against the bathroom sink ultimately leading to her. As a result of her injuries Amy was air lifted to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital where she later died as a result of injuries. Amy Joyer’s untimely death is yet another example of how students are going to school and not coming home. This entire thing that started over and could have easily been talked as per Joyer’s intentions; it’s sad that an innocent life was lost over something so small. Amy Joyer’s family and friends will never be blessed with her presence or smile all because of boy. This is just one of multiple signs that times are changing, students need to stand up for one another instead of videotaping a brutal attack. A parent should never send their child off to school and that child doesn’t return home. Amy Francis-Joyer death could have easily been prevented if just one student would have stopped to help instead of recording. For Amy and her family let’s make a change so that no family or parent has to ever experience what Amy Francis- Joyer family is going through. (this article was written from my personal point of view) . In this current day things are different from before; kids are going to school and not coming home, people have to fear that every time they go into a public will they be asked to open their bag or go through security. Sadly, Joyer’s case is not the first example of a changing society; we also look back on the Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre and day we will never. It’s unfair that the constant display violence amongst students has not been enough for something to click that we have to make a change for this generation and the future generations to come. It’s sad that we’ve come to point in society where a child can be murdered over something as minor as a guy. As a society for the sake of the children and future generations we need to stand untied as one and make a change; have more role models and examples of leadership in communities and schools. If we don’t start now and make a change more parents and families will have to experience what Amy’s family is going through; the loss of a child something no family or parent should ever have to deal or go through. “Rest in Peace Amy Francis-Joyer. “
