Visit Sigtuna and Skåne!

May 26,2015

On August 10, 2013 I boarded the plane that would carry me through Iceland, over the majestic Norwegian fjords, and into the cheerful-spirited metropolis of Stockholm. From Stockholm, I traveled with my family to the storybook-like town of Sigtuna, Sweden’s oldest village where ancient Viking rune stones still stand to this day, captivating locals and tourists alike with wonder and awe. That night my family held a reunion in honor of my arrival where I mingled and laughed with relatives I had never met and some that I did not even know existed!

From Sigtuna, I traveled to the province of Skåne where I met even more family that I didn’t even know existed and learned that I was related to at least half of Skåne. Skåne was an old farming community remodeled with a modern charm. During the summers, baby seals washed up on the beaches and curl up for naps, while magpies soared through the skies and filled the air with blissful tunes. While I was in Skåne my family took me on a field trip around the region to see where my ancestors were buried and to visit the old farm houses that they once lived in. During the reunion I became very close with one of my aunts who took me in as one of her own.
