Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Are scholarships renewable each year?
Some scholarships are renewable, while others are one-time awards. A renewable scholarship can continue for additional terms or years only under its stated conditions. The award letter should explain duration, renewal steps, and any limits.
Check whether renewal is automatic or requires action
Requirements may include a GPA, completed credits, continuous enrollment, an eligible major, or an annual application. Some awards require updated financial information or confirmation of participation in a program. Do not assume the conditions match those used for the initial award.
Ask whether the amount stays the same and whether funding is guaranteed when conditions are met or remains subject to another review. Check the maximum number of funded terms and how transfer, leave, summer enrollment, or a change of major affects eligibility.
Put the answer into practice
- Read the renewal section of the award letter.
- Record academic and administrative conditions.
- Add review dates and required forms to your calendar.
- Ask for clarification before changing enrollment.
The award comparison guide helps assess funding across the degree. A four-year plan should use the written commitment, not an assumption that a first-year award repeats indefinitely.
