Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Can online students apply for scholarships?

Yes. Online students can apply for scholarships that permit their institution, program, and mode of study. Some awards make no distinction between online and in-person enrollment; others have campus, residency, or attendance restrictions.

Verify the program, not just the school name

A university can offer several kinds of online study, including degree programs, certificates, and noncredit courses. A scholarship for enrolled degree students may not cover every option. Check the exact credential and whether the provider requires a particular form of institutional or program recognition.

Ask whether the award covers your online program’s tuition and fees, how full-time status is defined, and whether geographical eligibility still applies. Do not assume remote attendance removes residency requirements.

Put the answer into practice

  • Match the named institution and program to the award rules.
  • Check degree, credit-load, and residency conditions.
  • Confirm which online-program expenses are eligible.
  • Ask the financial aid office about campus awards available to online students.

Use the scholarship directory for leads, then confirm details with the provider. Keep written clarification if the listing does not explicitly address online enrollment.
