I want to be a dental hygienist because I would love to volunteer for the community. Many people do not have dental coverage and I want to do free treatment for the patients. As a dental hygienist I can have my own schedule and choose the days that I would want to work. As a dental hygienist one does not have to work for only one place, one could work for several practices. For example, county, jails, private or public clinics, or the military bases. Also working for schools so that experienced dental hygienists can assist inexperienced and training dental hygienists. I would also want to teach patients about the importance of having good dental hygiene. My parents did not have knowledge about how to take care of their teeth. However, growing up I did not like to go to the dentist because I was traumatized due to having too many amalgam fillings. I believe that I did not have cavities, but that the dentist just wanted the money from the insurance company. As a dental hygienist I will be sincere with my patients. I always continue to brush and floss my teeth. When I was in high school I took a dental assistant course and became a dental assistant and received an x-ray license. I said to myself if I ever have children they will not have amalgam fillings like I did. No dentist is going to fool me. In the yearbook a picture of me is shown where I am practicing being a dental assistant. At one point I dressed up as a dental assistant in a Halloween party. I continued with my career and worked in the dental office. Later in life after 13 years I became an RDA and renew my license every two years. In 2001, I attended Chaffey college and earned a corona and ultra scale certificate. Five years ago when I started Victor Valley College, my counselor mentioned one does not need an associates to transfer to a university. Just by taking the classes one needs to transfer can a student go to another university. I said I wanted an associates. In fact, I will earn a double major which is math/science and liberal arts/humanities in spring 2021 when I graduate. I want to attend a university where I can earn a BS as a dental hygienist.
