01 / A decision you can make together

Before you join: a family checklist

Set aside a few minutes with your student. These seven checks help turn a membership decision into a practical plan.

  1. Confirm the organization. Use HonorSociety.org and its official support links to check the invitation and who sent it.
  2. Choose a goal. Name a scholarship to explore, an employer to research, or a skill to develop. Ask which specific resource would help.
  3. Compare access. Check whether that resource is available with Basic membership or requires a particular Premium plan. Look for activation steps and partner terms.
  4. Read the full cost. Confirm the amount due today, billing frequency, automatic renewal, and any separate purchases. Save the checkout terms and receipt.
  5. Agree on payment. If a parent pays, decide together who will review the receipt, track the renewal date, and contact support if a question arises.
  6. Protect the student’s account. Use an email the student can continue accessing. Keep passwords and security codes private; discuss what the student wants to share.
  7. Set a review date. Before the next renewal, review the resources used, any actual savings, and whether the plan still fits. Keep the cancellation instructions handy.

02 / Understanding the invitation

What does an Honor Society invitation mean?

An invitation introduces the opportunity to join Honor Society® and explore its resources. Receiving an email or letter does not, by itself, enroll a student or create a payment obligation.

Does it mean my student was nominated by their school?

An invitation alone does not establish a school nomination or a particular class rank. Honor Society membership has no minimum GPA requirement; academic recognition levels have separate published criteria. Read the requirements and recognition guide to understand the distinction.

How can our family check a message?

Start by typing HonorSociety.org into your browser. If a message is unclear, send Member Services the sender address, subject, date, and a screenshot through the official support form. Remove payment details, passwords, and security codes first. A logo or familiar display name alone does not authenticate an email.

Read the invitation and email guide

03 / Plan your budget

How much does Honor Society membership cost?

  • Basic membership

    $0

No membership dues. A paid plan is not required to apply for Honor Society scholarships; each award has its own rules.

  • Premium membership

    From $65
    Semi-annually (every six months).

Renews automatically unless canceled before renewal. Price and benefits depend on the selected plan. Review the amount, interval, and terms at checkout.

The published starting price was checked November 2, 2026. Compare current dues and plan benefits before purchasing.

A useful budgeting example: A plan priced at $65 every six months costs $130 for two full six-month terms if the price stays the same, before any applicable taxes, fees, or separate purchases.

Store merchandise and some partner services cost extra. Check what is included, what requires a purchase, and whether a partner trial has its own renewal. Families considering dues assistance can review Honor Society Cares™ for current eligibility and availability.

How do renewals and cancellation work?

Premium plans renew automatically. Review the student’s account for the renewal date and amount. To stop the next charge, cancel the paid plan before that date through subscription management or request Member Services assistance. Complete the prompts and retain confirmation.

Paid benefits continue through the current paid term after cancellation, and Basic membership remains. Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not cancel a paid plan.

What if we need a refund?

Cancellation and a refund request are separate actions. The published policy allows a full refund of the most recent membership payment when you cancel within 14 days of joining a paid plan or renewal and request the refund from Member Services. After that window, payments are generally non-refundable except where required by law.

04 / Put membership to use

What can a student realistically get from membership?

Start with an action your student wants to take. Compare the relevant resource, its access requirements, and the time your student will devote to using it.

  • Research a career or employer

Use Career Insider’s industry guides and employer profiles to explore a field or prepare questions for an interview.

Access: The current benefits catalog lists Career Insider at Bronze and above. Sign-in and activation may be required.

  • Use a relevant member benefit

Compare participating offers with the purchases your family already plans to make. Assess actual savings after restrictions and extra costs.

Access: Benefits vary by plan and provider. A discount is not cash, and a listed offer may require activation or a separate purchase.

Honor Society AI™ (Beta): turn ambition into a clearer next step

Honor Society is using AI now to power its member experience and is rolling out features focused on résumé building, online personal branding, scholarship tools, and career preparation. Honor Society AI™ is designed to make that work easier to start, more organized, and more connected to each member’s goals.

The rollout focuses on four practical ways to help members prepare:

  • Build a résumé with a clearer story. Help members organize their education, projects, work, and service into résumé content that communicates their experience and strengths.
  • Present themselves with confidence online. Support personal branding that connects a member’s background, interests, and ambitions in a more coherent professional profile.
  • Bring more structure to scholarship preparation. Help members organize their goals and application materials, develop their ideas, and prepare responses grounded in their own experiences.
  • Move career preparation forward. Support the work of exploring career directions, preparing application materials, and communicating what a member can contribute.

For families, the value is practical: a student facing a blank résumé or an unfamiliar application process can benefit from a more structured starting point. The purpose is to help them build on what they have already done, express it clearly, and make progress toward the next opportunity. Parents pursuing their own career or education goals can explore the same direction for their membership.

Less time starting from scratch. More time preparing for what comes next.

Features and access vary as Beta tools roll out. Members should review AI-generated material for accuracy, keep their work authentic, and follow the rules of the school, employer, or scholarship program receiving it.

Set realistic expectations. These resources support preparation and participation. Membership does not guarantee a scholarship, college admission, improved grades, employment, or financial savings. The value depends on the student’s goals, use of the resources, and individual circumstances.

06 / Your next chapter, too

Can parents join Honor Society?

Yes. Parents can join Honor Society® as members in their own right. You do not need to be enrolled in school or join through your child. Membership welcomes adults pursuing professional development, continued learning, and personal growth.

How can membership serve a parent?

  • Explore your next career move. Use available career resources to research employers, understand a new field, or prepare for a return to work. Choose tools that match your experience and goals.
  • Keep learning. Explore member learning resources to refresh a skill, support a professional interest, or prepare for a new responsibility. Check the selected plan’s access requirements.
  • Find benefits you will use. Review participating offers for purchases or services that already fit your needs. Compare actual savings, provider terms, and any additional costs.

Grow alongside your child—with goals of your own

Joining can give you a shared reason to make time for learning and progress. You might research a career change while your student explores an internship, or each choose a course and discuss what you learned. These are ways to participate together while keeping each person’s ambitions at the center.

Start by choosing one goal each and one relevant resource. Schedule a short check-in to share progress, celebrate effort, and decide what to try next.

How to join: Create your own account using your name and email, then compare Basic and Premium membership for your needs. Your child should keep their own account. Each person’s benefits depend on their plan and the provider’s eligibility rules; household access applies only when a specific benefit expressly includes it.

07 / Support for the person paying

What should a parent do when paying for membership?

Review the selected plan together before completing payment. The student’s membership and the parent’s payment are different parts of the transaction; keep a record of both.

  1. Keep the membership identifiable. Make sure the student’s name and account email are accurate. Do not create a second paid account just to resolve a billing question.
  2. Review recurring charges together. The cardholder should understand and authorize the payment terms. Agree who will track renewal and retain the receipt.
  3. Ask for billing help directly. If you paid and need help identifying a charge, checking a payment, or stopping future billing, contact Member Services and explain that you are the payer.
  4. Ask what verification is needed. For account changes or access to private student information, Member Services can explain the verification or member permission needed for the request.

What should I include in a support request?

Provide your name, the student’s name and account email if known, the charge date and amount, and what you want help with. Include a receipt or existing ticket number when available. If relevant, provide only the last four card digits—never the full card number, security code, password, or login code.

Can’t reach the student or don’t know the account email? You can still submit a billing concern. State what information you have and ask Member Services how to verify your payment and address the request.

Get help with a parent-paid membership

08 / Student privacy

How can families help while respecting student privacy?

Let your student lead their profile, applications, and career materials. Discuss what they are comfortable sharing with family. Paying for membership should not be treated as permission to view private account information or act as the student.

Review any profile information intended for public display before posting it. Use official support for private billing matters, and avoid placing card details, student documents, or account information in social media comments.

What does the Privacy Policy cover?

The Privacy Policy explains account and payment information, application data, device information, service providers, advertising and analytics partners, AI inputs, and available privacy choices. It also explains how to request access, correction, deletion, or other applicable privacy actions through support.

Partner resources may have their own privacy policies. Review them before sharing documents or personal information. For AI tools, use only the information needed for the task and review the output yourself.

What if the student is a minor?

The site is not intended for children under 13. For an older minor, review the Terms of Use together and ask Member Services about applicable account, permission, and payment requirements before joining. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information, contact support.

09 / Get to know Honor Society

An established community, with evidence you can explore

Honor Society launched its web-first initiative in 2014. Millions have joined since then, a cumulative measure of participation. Today, our focus is a national digital community with resources that can remain relevant beyond a single campus or graduation date.

Honor Society has also donated more than $1 million to other honor societies and nonprofits. This organizational giving is separate from direct student scholarship awards. Read the Transparency Center for context and meet our leadership to learn about the people behind the organization.

10 / A few more family questions

Questions about recognition and participation

Is this the same as National Honor Society at a high school?

No. This page is about Honor Society® at HonorSociety.org. National Honor Society and other similarly named organizations have their own membership requirements and programs. Confirm the organization and website when comparing invitations.

Does a student need a campus chapter?

No. Honor Society has discontinued its campus chapter model and now focuses on its national digital membership community. A chapter is not required to access the membership opportunity.

Can a student wear Honor Society regalia at graduation?

Check the school’s commencement rules before ordering or wearing regalia. A purchase does not establish permission to wear it or confer school-issued graduation honors.

Is Premium membership worthwhile for every student?

The right choice depends on the resources the student will use, their existing access through school or work, and the family budget. Compare those details together. Choose a plan for a specific use and review that decision as the student’s needs change.

Have a question before deciding?

Member Services can help with invitations, plan details, access, and billing questions. If you are a parent or family member, say whether you are asking for general information or help with a payment.
