Nov 19,2015

The semester is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean that you have to wait until next semester to boost your resume. While an internship or a job are the best way to boost your resume during the school year, the reality is that classes (especially those upper division courses) are a job themselves so the summers are reserved for your career experiences. Here are four great ways to boost your resume to land your most desired job.

1.Join an honor society

Joining an honor society is a guaranteed boost to your resume.  There are many different honor societies out there that are related to your academic achievements in regards to your major or general academic achievements. If you’re not sure if you qualify for an honor society, definitely look into the requirements anyway. You never know if you meet the requirements. To take this boost to the next level, take a leadership position within the honor society. HonorSociety.org is growing across campuses all over the United States and is accepting applications for chapter founders and presidents to start a chapter on their campus. This is an excellent way to get leadership experience and you’ll get hands on experience that will not only look great on your resume, but will also be a conversation topic during your interview. You can learn more about becoming a chapter founder here.

2.Attend a service trip

You’ve probably seen the flyers all around campus to attend a service immersion trip or alternative breaks. These trips typically occur each semester and are about 3-7 days long depending if it’s over a long weekend or a weeklong break like Spring Break. They’re usually centered on social justice or environmental causes. If you do your research, you’ll be able to find a trip that fits the causes you care most about.

3.Blog

No matter what major or industry you dream of working in, getting a blog or writing portfolio developed is a great way to boost your resume. Writing about topics related to the industry you want to be a part of not only shows potential employers how enthusiastic and well-versed you are in that industry, but it also demonstrates that you have the communication skills needed to be a part of a team. If you’re not tech savvy, that’s ok. HonorSociety.org provides a blogging platform for free for all members.
