Ashley Johnson: My Community Service Scholarship!

Dec 10,2015

I am a Graduate student pursuing a Master of Public Adminstration at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Relay for Life was started in 1985 and is an annual, two day, overnight event sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  Relay for Life raises money to support cancer survivors, those who have been lost to cancer, their families and to fund cancer research.  ACS along with Relay for Life hope to one day find a cure for cancer.  Relay for Life is very celebratory in its efforts and many Relay or Life Events include a Survivor Dinner the week of Relay and all Relay for Life events include the Luminary Ceremony.  The Luminary Ceremony is a time to remember and honor cancer survivors and those lost to cancer.  As Luminary Chair of Harnett County Relay for Life, I took great pride in coordinating the luminaries and luminary ceremony this year.  Relay for Life is a great event and I hope to continue to participate for many more years.
