I love my African

        See me for whom I am. Judge me based on my actions and character and not because of the color of my skin. I deserve to be treated with respect. I have a right to be heard. Give me the opportunity to show my worth as you would a white American. My skin color should not be a hindrance to my success.  These are the words most black Americans are eager to express but hardly uttered. The color of my skin should not be a determinant of my success. Every passing minute most black people are subjected to these treatments, be it because of religion or sexual orientation, this is wrong. It is discrimination.

            The Merriam-Webster dictionary defined discrimination as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of people. Discrimination is known to have a destabilizing effect on the affected individuals. It has led to significant numbers of suicide worldwide. It makes people of color uncomfortable in their own skin. It even makes some want to become someone else, evidently, most women of African descent has resulted to bleaching their skin to make them look “white”.  Some even resort to suicide. Discrimination leads to low self-esteem, lower self-confidence. Blacks are made to seem like “revolutionized monkeys”. Sometimes, in some court of law, people of color are subjected to harsher punishment compared to white Americans for similar crimes, a case in point is the cocaine versus meth debates currently taking place in the court system. The law should punish people for their wrong doing and not for the color of their skin. This is a racial disease that affects the fabric of American society. This great country known as America may never thrive or succeed because of this disease until the right antibiotic… “equality” is administered.

            Over the years’ protests and matches by both black and white Americans have been staged to bring about equality among all races and genders with promising results. However, colored people need to summon the courage and walk with heads high on their shoulders because true pride comes from within, it is not given. For one’s worth is not determined by the shade of melanin and tone of skin.       In conclusion,  science has revealed that irrespective of race, creed or color, humans all over the world are equal and the same irrespective of the slight difference in genetics.
