Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Can a college rescind admission?
A college can withdraw an admission offer under its stated policies, including for material misrepresentation, significant academic problems, unmet conditions, or certain conduct concerns. The circumstances and review process vary.
Read and maintain the conditions of your offer
Read the offer carefully and keep meeting academic, reporting, and document requirements. If a problem occurs, respond promptly and honestly through the college’s process. A counselor can help you gather facts and understand available options, but cannot guarantee that the offer will remain in place.
Do not ignore a request for clarification or attempt to conceal an error. Explain the situation, provide relevant documentation, and ask what steps are required. If you receive a rescission notice, check whether a review or appeal is available and preserve another educational path while the issue is considered.
Your next steps
- Review admission conditions and final-record requirements.
- Report required changes through the official channel.
- Request written instructions and deadlines for any review.
