Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Do colleges verify extracurricular activities?
Colleges may verify extracurricular claims through recommendations, school records, interviews, audits, or requests for clarification. Practices differ, so every application should be accurate whether or not verification occurs.
Make every activity claim defensible
Use your real role, participation dates, responsibilities, and supportable results. If time estimates are requested, calculate them reasonably from your schedule and account for seasonal participation. Separate the organization’s total impact from your individual work.
An activity evidence record helps you remember details and answer follow-up questions. It can include calendars, project notes, public work samples, and a supervisor contact with permission. Do not collect or share private information about other participants just to strengthen an application. Correct a material error through the college’s designated update process.
Your next steps
- Check dates, hours, titles, and outcomes against your records.
- Ask permission before listing a reference.
- Describe estimates honestly and correct discovered errors promptly.
