Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Do scholarship committees verify extracurricular activities?
Scholarship providers may verify extracurricular activities through references, school records, interviews, or requests for additional documentation. Verification practices differ, so every claim should be accurate and supportable.
What to know before you act
Describe your actual role, dates, responsibilities, and results. Separate a group’s total impact from your individual contribution. If hours are estimates, calculate them from a reasonable record and follow the application’s reporting instructions. Never ask a supervisor to confirm inflated information.
An achievement inventory makes this easier: preserve project notes, event records, and contact details while the experience is fresh. It also helps you write specific essays without relying on exaggerated language or an impressive-sounding title.
Your next steps
- Check activity dates against your calendar.
- Ask permission before naming a reference.
- Keep evidence of your contribution and correct errors promptly.
