Honor Society® Expert FAQ

Where do college students find internships?

College students can find internships through campus career platforms, employer career pages, faculty contacts, professional associations, and alumni conversations. Use job boards to discover leads, then verify the employer and application route.

Search through several credible channels

Ask your department about research placements, local employers, and programs that recruit from your course of study. Smaller organizations may advertise later or recruit through faculty and community connections. Search by responsibilities as well as job title: a communications internship might be listed as content, outreach, or marketing.

Verify the organization’s identity, supervisor, duties, location, and compensation before committing. Requests to pay for a job or deposit a check and send money onward are warning signs. A conversation with an alumnus can explain the work, but it does not replace an employer’s official application process.

Your next steps

  • Create a shortlist of employers and verified application pages.
  • Ask campus staff and faculty about field-specific leads.
  • Record pay, eligibility, timing, and contact details for each opening.
