Honor Society® Expert FAQ

How much financial aid can you receive?

Your financial aid depends on education costs, eligibility, financial circumstances, enrollment, program limits, and available funding. There is no single amount every student can receive.

What to know before you act

Cost of attendance helps set the budget used in aid calculations, but it is not a promise that aid will cover every expense. Need-based and non-need-based programs have different rules, and annual or lifetime limits may apply. Outside scholarships can require adjustments to other aid.

Compare the school’s actual offer with a realistic budget and the timing of bills. If required expenses are missing or circumstances have changed, ask whether a documented review is available. Avoid assuming the amount offered in loans is affordable simply because it is permitted.

Your next steps

  • Check which attendance period and enrollment level the offer assumes.
  • Identify unmet costs after grants and scholarships.
  • Ask the aid office about limits and possible adjustments.

For the next step, use the compare financial aid offers. Use a worked example and worksheet to compare net price, loans, and renewal conditions.
