Honor Society® Expert FAQ
When do you need to commit to a college?
Commit by the response deadline stated in your college’s offer or binding agreement. Many U.S. first-year offers use a spring decision date, but there is no universal deadline for every student or admission plan.
Use the deadline in your actual admission offer
Early decision, rolling admission, transfer admission, and waitlist offers can have different timelines. Housing and scholarship deadlines may also be separate. If an aid review is unresolved, request an extension before the commitment deadline rather than assuming one will be granted.
Read deposit refund terms and the conditions attached to your place. Once you accept, follow the enrollment instructions and decline other offers as required. Avoid holding multiple enrollment deposits unless the institutions expressly permit the arrangement.
Your next steps
- Record admission, deposit, housing, and scholarship dates.
- Request any needed extension in writing before the deadline.
- Confirm acceptance and retain the receipt and terms.
