Honor Society® Expert FAQ

How do you write useful AI prompts for studying?

A useful AI study prompt states the topic, your learning level, the permitted source material, and how you want to practice. It should tell the assistant what to do when the source does not support an answer.

Ask for the kind of practice you actually need

Example: “I am reviewing introductory economics. From these notes, ask five questions about opportunity cost, one at a time. Wait for my attempt, then check it against the notes. Do not introduce facts you cannot support.” Verify the questions and feedback rather than assuming the instruction prevents every error.

Choose the format to match the skill: explanation questions for concepts, worked attempts for calculations, or argument feedback for writing. Avoid requests that generate assessed work when that assistance is prohibited. The goal is a practice interaction you can evaluate and learn from.

Your next steps

  • Name the learning objective and your current level.
  • Specify sources, response format, and uncertainty handling.
  • Check the output and finish with independent practice.
