Honor Society® Expert FAQ
How do you use AI to explain difficult concepts?
Use AI to explain a difficult concept by naming what you understand, identifying the confusing step, and requesting an explanation at the right level. Then check the explanation against your course material.
Ask for a targeted explanation, then apply it yourself
Instead of “Explain calculus,” ask: “I understand average rate of change but not why a limit is needed for an instantaneous rate. Explain that connection, then ask me a question.” Request an example and ask where an analogy stops being accurate. Simple wording should not remove a condition essential to the concept.
Try a new example without help afterward. If the explanation conflicts with the instructor’s method, bring the discrepancy to office hours or a tutor. Repeatedly asking a chatbot to confirm itself does not resolve uncertainty about which account is correct.
Your next steps
- Name the exact point of confusion and your current understanding.
- Request an example and check its assumptions.
- Apply the concept independently and ask a person about unresolved conflicts.
