The American Sociological Foundation Minority Fellowship Program is a predoctoral training program for underrepresented minorities in pursuit of a doctoral degree in sociology. Areas of interest for former Fellows include social psychology, gender and sexuality, education, medicine and health, inequalities and stratification, race and ethnicity, and more. The average award is a minimum $15,000, paid as a stipend over 1 year, in addition to training and mentoring opportunities. Eligible fellows must be citizens or nationals of the United States, or have been lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence. They must also be accepted and/or enrolled in a full-time Sociology doctoral program in the U.S. and must be members of a racial and ethnic group, including Blacks/African Americans, Latinos (e.g. Chicano, Cuban, Puerto Rican), American Indians or Alaskan Natives), and Asians (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian) or Pacific Islanders (e.g. Hawaiian, Guamanian, Samoan, Filipino.) Doctoral level dissertations that explore or promote educational equity and fairness based on gender, race, ethnicity, religion, class, sexual orientation, or other such variables will be considered for support.
