Letting In Negativity

Luke 11:34 New International Version

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body is also full of darkness.

One year ago my story of dwelling in negativity began.

I was a doctorate student in California. I was told that I maxed out my ability to get scholarships from several entities. Private businesses also rejected my request for assistance or scholarships. Many prayed for me but were simply caught up in their own finances.

I knew that if I did not come up with the money I would be going back to Florida. Florida is a lovely place. I love the state that I was raised in. There are millions of people, opportunities to hide out in relaxation and great southern food! But there is also the horrid church culture- the kind of culture that promotes attending church once a week and volunteering for said church while judging everyone and behaving rudely. California may not be the most religious state but living amongst such diversity of cultures and life experiences typically means that people are too busy with their own families and dating life to be judging your life. There’s not alot of time for drama that is not within their daily routine.

I was losing money and the bills were piling high. I moved back to Florida in December 2017. When I arrived to Florida I was told that a certain person was not happy that I was moving back to Florida. This person was concerned that my presence would interrupt their comfortableness and thier livelihood. This person actually thought that I chose to move back to Florida and do some of my personal activities around them because I wanted to interrupt his/her life in a negative manner. I had not talked to this person in a few years. I did not care less to be around them.

Three days before I moved home I had a vision of someone being in an accident. This happened as I was driving down a hill in California. I had the vision in the middle of the hill’s incline. When I reached the bottom of the hill I checked my cell phone. The person that argued with a close family member of mine about my returning to California was just involved in a severe car accident. This person went through months of rehabilitation exercises.

This person was mean to me even after I had did all the right things in life- get degrees, a good job and no pregnancies. He/she was not understanding when things at that moment did not work out for me. This person complained instead of asking how they can help the situation- me and my debt.

I always ignored this person when they insulted me or my family in front of me or in while knowing that I was in earshot of another one of his/her gossip conversations with family members. I am writing articles for honorsociety.org, studying for a standardized test and doing alot of other writing. I did not have time to pay attention.

This person wanted me to pay attention to their whimsical psychobabble. He/she commented or stared at me concerning everything I did. I hated having to be in close quarters with the person. I complained to my mother that this person’s presence adds to the stress in our lives. My mother reminded me to ignore the person’s advances. My mom reminded me that I have alot going for me. I need not to worry about how the miserable person is trying to make me miserable. I am to stay focused on all the goals I have set in life.

I say to you. Like the people in California. Like the advice my mother gave me. Stay focused on your business. Be aware of the haters. Outsmart them. But do not let the haters win a space in your heart.
