Reflections of DC #honorsocietyorg #washingtondc #honorsociety

Jul 22,2015

Being an intern for honorsociety.org has been fantastic, but the truth is I wasn’t sure about taking time away from my busy life to check out Washington D.C.

After deciding to go I'm convinced it was worth the travel and here is why!

Journey – everyone from across the world

When I arrived in D.C. I had no clue what to expect. Upon boarding the hotel shuttle, from the airport, I had no expectations aside from visiting the White House. Within the first 24 hours of my trip I began to build new relationships with phenomenal students from all over the world (Hatti, Texas, Africa, California, China...). From the Lincoln Memorial to the White House I'm certain this trip helped each of us develop a deeper understanding of one another as we experienced US history firsthand.

Experience – growing, learning, and creating new memories

Who could have imagined that spending four days with complete strangers from across the world could spark new found friendships for a lifetime. Our tour across D.C. took us to many new places that encouraged each of us to reflect on our success as students, scholars, employees, and most important - leaders. During our visit in D.C. we learned about many of the leaders, like Martin Luther King, who helped shape our nation. For myself, being a leader encompasses stepping out of my own comfort zone to experience life while also helping others along their journey. Luckily, honorsociety.org helped me achieve this goal.

Future – friends, family, network

Thanks to this trip, I'm already planning on meeting up with my honorsociety.org members again this coming year. Sure, all of us are interested in different areas of study, personal development and career paths but we all have one major thing in common...wanting to experience what life has to offer via travel, friendship, and networking all while aiming high to achieve our goals - together.

Cheers, until next time #honorsocietyorg #washingtondc #honorsociety
