           I still vividly remember the day that I discovered my passion for journalism. I was walking to one of my classes on an unusually warm, fall morning when I glanced over to a newsstand displaying Michigan State University’s student-run newspaper. With one look at my article on the front page, I was overwhelmed with satisfaction. After arriving to class and observing some of my peers reading the article and becoming informed about something new and exciting, I recognized the incredible power of storytelling. I realized that the culmination of research and reporting with my unique voice as a writer could truly make an impact, and I suddenly felt empowered and fulfilled. It was in that exact moment that I knew I wanted to pursue a career in journalism

            Throughout the past two years as a student at Michigan State University, I have been presented with incredible opportunities to explore everything that the field of journalism has to offer. The passionate faculty and students that I have the opportunity to work with have encouraged me to challenge myself, and have helped me to achieve things that I could have never dreamt of. 

            In addition to focusing on my education and gaining real-world experiences in the field of public relations, I dedicate much of my time volunteering at the university’s Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD). Offering accommodations and encouragement to help fellow Spartans achieve academic success is an incredibly rewarding opportunity, and my connections with these students have taught me valuable communication skills that remain applicable to any career I will pursue in the future.

            I would like to thank the Honor Society for awarding me with this incredible Community Service Scholarship. I feel so honored and humbled to be recognized by such a respected society that truly invests in the future generations. This scholarship will help to enhance my overall educational experience by easing some of the financial burdens that I face as a college student. This award has helped me to find validation in all of the hard work I have put toward my education, and it has inspired me continue pushing myself to achieve greatness. This scholarship is an invaluable contribution to my education, and I am so grateful that the Honor Society has chosen to help me invest in my future and walk along my college experience with me!
