Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Can students with disabilities find college scholarships?
Yes. Students with disabilities can apply for general scholarships and, when eligible, awards specifically connected to disability. Start with the college’s financial aid and accessibility offices, then check verified organizations and scholarship listings.
Check documentation and accessibility separately
A provider may define eligibility by a particular disability, enrollment status, field, location, or other criterion. Review what documentation is actually required and how it will be handled. Do not post medical records publicly or provide unrelated private information.
If the application format creates a barrier, ask the provider about accessible submission arrangements before the deadline. An accommodation request and the scholarship selection criteria are separate issues. The campus accessibility office may be able to help you identify appropriate contacts.
Put the answer into practice
- Check both general and disability-specific awards.
- Read the definition and documentation requirements.
- Use verified channels for sensitive records.
- Ask early about accessible forms or submission methods.
Write about disability only to the extent it fits the prompt and you choose to share. Your academic work, employment, leadership, and goals can be relevant evidence in their own right. Keep the application centered on the award’s actual criteria.
