Honor Society® Expert FAQ
Does financial aid cover housing?
Financial aid can help with eligible housing and food costs included in your school’s cost-of-attendance budget. That does not guarantee enough aid to cover your actual rent or preferred housing arrangement.
What to know before you act
On-campus charges may be paid through the student account. Off-campus costs are often paid from funds released after school charges are covered, subject to award restrictions. A tuition-only scholarship cannot automatically be redirected to rent.
Compare the school’s housing allowance with lease payments, deposits, utilities, transportation, and meal costs. Refund timing may not match the date a landlord requires payment. Ask about your expected disbursement schedule before signing a lease that depends on aid arriving first.
Your next steps
- Confirm the correct housing status on your aid budget.
- Check restrictions on each award.
- Plan for deposits and bills due before funds arrive.
