Honor Society® Expert FAQ
What is an honors college?
An honors college is an academic unit within a university that offers a distinctive educational experience for admitted students. It typically has its own participation and completion requirements, which may include specialized courses, research, or a culminating project.
Find out what would change in your actual degree
Possible features include smaller seminars, dedicated advising, research access, or an academic community. These are not guaranteed at every institution. Ask what is available in your major, when you can use it, and what participation costs in time or fees.
Admission and completion are separate achievements. An invitation to join does not mean you have already earned the final honors designation. Check whether honors courses fulfill degree requirements or add work beyond them, and whether study abroad, internships, or transfer credits fit the plan.
Put the answer into practice
- Compare the honors curriculum with your intended major.
- Ask about advising, course access, and research participation.
- Check GPA and project requirements for remaining in the program.
- Map the requirements onto a realistic graduation timeline.
