About

My name is Abigail Kelley, I'm a current full-time student at Frostburg State University who plans on majoring in psychology and minoring in biology. The brain has always interested me, and the fact that there are over seven billion on this Earth ad we still can't figure the brain out, fascinates me. I've decided to take on biology so I can understand the body as well as the mind. Biology as well as English and Psychology, is one of my favorite subjects to study.
I'm currently in a volunteer group on campus known as, ECHOSTARS, which is affiliated with AMERICORPS. I must complete 300 service hours to successfully complete the program and I'm proud to say I have almost reached 200 already! Volunteering has given me the opportunity to work with people, namely children, on a whole new level. My excellent work at my service site has earned me a job as well, I think this job will help me in my career because I'm working with children and parents up-close and personal, which is the age of clients I want to work with - children and adults.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to complete my GEP credits and my major in Psychology at Frostburg State. I want to receive my masters in psychology at West Virginia University, specializing in child and adult therapy. Eventually, I plan to go back to school and receive my doctorate.

Outside the classroom

Activities I associate myself with include the arts, I've danced for 15 years and I now help assist with classes, because of this experience I have gained better time management skills, I further understand having commitment and responsibility, and how to retain a lot of different information. For nine years of my life I have played an array of instruments, from flutes to steel drums. My experience with working as a dance assistant gave me the opportunity to leadership positions within my high school matching band, music has disciplined and created a perfectionist out of me, it has especially helped me think more creatively to get tasks done. If I have learned anything about myself this first semester, it's that I like to get things done, it might not be a lot at once, but I know that what I am working to complete is going to be my best work and in my best interests as a student.
