About
Wildlife is one of the most gracious gifts God has given man. Forests and their resources are an important part of our environment. Therefore, it is our responsibility to treat it with respect.
There are many reasons why I am pursuing a career in FORESTRY. One of the main reasons is because I absolutely love the outdoors. Every chance I get I am in the woods, where I feel at home. I could not imagine having to go to an office everyday and sit in a cubical for 8 hours. I will always be grateful to my father for teaching me to hunt and fish, as well as to value the importance of wildlife and the forest where it lives.
Another bit reason I would like a career in Forestry is because I am an avid hunter. Because I have hunted all my life, I believe in conservation and the protection of populations of animals. Many people believe hunting is going into the woods and killing animals for no reason. And yes, some people do that unfortunately, but I think hunting is more of taking care of the land, killing for food, and killing to control numbers of a population. If no one hunted, massive populations of animals would become out of control, as disease and lack of food would kill a lot of the animals.
Forest Resources are vulnerable to many things. Unfortunately, man is one of the largest enemies. I want to do my part and conserve the land and animals populations, so there will always be animals for people to hunt and enjoy in the future. I have a little sister, who is learning important lessons about preserving animals and taking care of our environment. As I grow older I realize the value in sharing this same knowledge with my own family one day.
Pursuing a career in Forest Resources will give me the knowledge and experiences I need to do my part in protecting our wildlife and environment. I am honored to be able to attend Mississippi State University and study in the College of Forestry.
