About

I am a marine ecologist and have extensive research experience conducting coastal water quality and ecological studies in the Gulf of Mexico. My primary research interests include phytoplankton ecology, aquatic primary production, biogeochemistry and carbon cycling. I am interested in planktonic food web interactions and seek to understand the effects of physical, chemical, and climate influences on the organization and dynamics of those assemblages. I am currently working towards my doctorate as a plankton ecologist on the GOMRI-funded Consortium of Coastal River-Dominated Ecosystems (CONCORDE). My research focus is on plankton thin layers and utilizing an automated plankton imaging system (FlowCAM) to characterize the phytoplankton and microzooplankton community in the Gulf of Mexico.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My career goal is to work as a research ecologist in marine environments. I want to work for NOAA as a Research Ecologist where I participate in and conduct independent ecological research that supports ecosystem health, preserves biodiversity, and provides novel information on ecosystem function in a variety of marine systems. My primary goal is to be a leader in the field of plankton ecology and its application to understanding the carbon cycle, anthropogenic degradation, loss of biodiversity, and eutrophication to the marine environment.

Graduate school interests

I am seeking post-doctoral opportunities with academic and government organizations.

Outside the classroom

Cooking, hiking with my dogs, music, reading, gardening, fishing, mountain biking, running
