Adam Fortier

I am currently enrolled in the Liberal Arts program with Mount Wachusett Community College. Through my studies I have discovered the wonder that is philosophy. This discovery was a one of the most bitter/sweet moments of my life. You see, during my primary and secondary education there had never been any philosophical discourse. Of course there where whispers here and there - critical thinking assignments and the occasional inspirational teacher- yet there weren't any classes that covered things like logic and reasoning, ethics, aesthetics, metaphysics.
Now here I am, 25 and I am just learning that where my education was inspired from. Learning that I can ask questions like "what do you mean by that"; furthermore, I can discuss the answer through a beautiful and robust rhetoric. Learning that the knowledge I have been given could be built on. It was in this moment that I realized how much I had missed out on, how much more of a person I cold have been.
I'm not sure why our standard education does not have philosophy built into it and that is my mission. I know that if we build logic and reasoning back into our education then we can offer students an opportunity to take their dreams and turn them into a reality. I will continue my education, aiming towards becoming a strong voice in this already existing and necessary dialogue.
