About

I am a returning college student after 25 years (beginning my senior year in high school) and have been able to attend my community college with a transfer to Arizona State University last year. It has been a challenge to both work full-time and attend online classes (part-time), but I am very pleased to accomplish this goal with academic honors. I have been able to take classes in fitness, healthy eating, stress management, and the cultural and political aspects of health. My wish is to use this knowledge to help others, especially children and youth.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am interested in health education and wish to obtain a position in a health promotion field and preventative health care after completion of my degree. My ultimate goal is to write and publish a Life 101 interactive website directed towards children/youth and eventually opening a learning center or Life 101 camp. This will include starting up my non-profit organization with the intent of offering scholarships to underprivileged children/youth interested in improving their health and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Graduate school interests

Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Healthy Lifestyles Coaching through Arizona State University/School of Nutrition and Health Promotion. After completion of my degree, my immediate learning goals may lead me into further school in alternative/complementary health care such as becoming certified in a holistic field. In the meantime, I am attempting to start up my non-profit business geared around helping children/youth improve their lives.

Outside the classroom

My interests are varied, but the most exciting aspect of what I like to do is centered around food! I love to cook and create new, tasty creations for my family and friends. I am most proud of the latest accomplishment in healing my own body with incorporating a healthy, organic and balanced diet. This is in addition to staying active and enjoying activities like going dancing, attending yoga each week, and walking or hiking in the nearby forests. I love to be out in nature which has inspired my horticultural interests and am looking forward to growing my own organic garden this year. I would also like to plant a butterfly garden to add a touch of beauty into my garden!
