About
Hello, my name is Adith Shinu. I was born in Des Plaines, Illinois, but my heritage traces back to Kerala, India. I’m currently a Junior at Dominican University earning my Bachelor’s in Biology, with the aim of obtaining a Master’s in Paleontology. As such, I’ve taken various scientific courses, including chemistry, geology, and biology, gaining skills in lab preparation and experience, scientific writing and research, teamwork, and data interpretation, during my years at Main East High School and Oakton Community College. Simultaneously, I received numerous awards and certificates, including Honor Roll, Presidential Certificate, and Student of the Month in each of my classes, in recognition of my studious, social personality. Currently, I maintain a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA in all my classes and have received praise from my professors for my hard work and diligence. However, education comes at a cost; thus, I began searching for a part-time job near my location.
As a result, I landed a job at a local Jewel-Osco as an online grocery shopper, or DUG employee. The job’s main objective is to complete customer online orders on time, hand over completed orders to the customer or DoporDash drivers, and answer any questions they have about the DUG department. However, I’m also helping train new DUG employees, assisting in other departments (like commerce or frozen), checking the DUG department’s computers, and providing customer service. Thus, I completed 5 to 10 orders on time each day, handed off 10 to 20 orders to DoorDash drivers or customers, and answered 5 calls from the DUG phone. As a result, I received a raise from my superiors, built strong relationships with my coworkers, achieved an on-time delivery rate over 90%, and received various awards (such as gift cards or appreciation certificates) from my superiors. In addition, I built up my communication, teamwork, computer, and organizational skills.
While working at Jewel Osco provided me with a stable income and the necessary skills for the workforce, I’m currently looking for a paid internship or another part-time job aligned with paleontology or related fields.
