About
Personal Statement
The goal of nursing intervention is to promote and enhance wellness to provide everyone the opportunity to realize their maximum potential. I desire to become a Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I believe that in this advanced practice role I will have the opportunity to further influence the mental wellness of my patients across the lifespan. Nurses possess specialized skills and knowledge which allows them to impact health in a positive way, unlike any other health care professional. Nursing wisdom combined with the medical instruction that nurse practitioners receive through formal education programs provides advanced practitioners with a unique knowledge base, unlike any other provider in the medical field. I crave this information and the opportunity to be a continual learner as the medical field continues to advance, and to have the chance to influence and facilitate healthy lifestyles and positive patient outcomes, by combining nursing and medical evidenced based practices into my practice.
I graduated university in Colombia as a Physician and Surgeon, where I had the opportunity to work in the medical field for more than 10 years. This experience helps me appreciate increases in psychiatric pathologies in our community and its deep psychosocial consequences. With a natural sensitivity for other humans in need, the devotion for behavioral sciences and an intense dedication to fulfillment of personal goals, I will dedicate my life to improve the quality of life of multiple families in our region. As Single Mother and full time student of this academically exigent Program at FIU, a scholarship assistance would really help me to meet my goals.
Throughout my professional nursing career, I have been amazed at the increasing amount of evidence on the contribution of both nursing and medical intervention to patient outcomes, which is more notorious in the mental health practice. Psychiatric science is having a fast development and is becoming more necessary every day in our communities. Therefore, by increasing the number of Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, the overall mental health of the population will increase; while the number of related social problems will decrease. Nurse practitioners provide evidenced based practice health care for others, with continuity and reliability. I desire to conquer these standards of care for my practice, and therefore, I am working on my Master’s Certificate to become a professional Certified Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and to dedicate my further years to service and research in this field.
