Alejandro Galdamez

My name is Alejandro Galdamez. I’m a student at the University of Rhode Island, studying to earn my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. I was previously a student at P-Tech Norwalk, the first Pathways in Technology school in Connecticut and is partnered with the company IBM. While a part of P-Tech I worked hard to get my Associates Degree in Software Engineering as well as my high school diploma. After four years at P-Tech I have gained my high school diploma at Norwalk High school and finished studying at Norwalk Community College to get my Associates Degree.

All throughout my life I have always had a great interest in computers and videogames, and I always wished to learn how to design or create a game or a website. But I knew nothing about programming and coding so it was never something I was ever able to practice. So when I was told about the creation of P-tech Norwalk, a new program where I could learn computer programming during high school I quickly applied and entered the program. I especially enjoyed my Web Development and Design 1 and 2 course.

It was through P-Tech that I learned not only coding skills such as HTML and Java but also many valuable life skills such as time management and perseverance. I work well with others and I am very motivated to succeed. I previously worked as a tutor, helping young children with their schoolwork. This taught me the importance of responsibility and being a clear communicator. I wish to continue to learn through my experiences and gain valuable skills.
