About
To whoever read this, my name is Alex Herrera. I am Twenty-one years old. I am the youngest child of a family of five. My mother is American and my father is Mexican. I was born in Red bluff California and lived in Corning California for a few years, until my Mother joined the Army and our family moved to Forthood Texas. While my Mother was overseas my older sisters and I were raised by my father. After my mother was injured and discharged from the Army we moved back to Corning California. I have always been a studious person and throughout my academic life I have been an A/B student. In sixth grade my Mother decided to enroll me in a Charter school where I was able to complete both seventh and eighth grade in the same year. I am also a hard working person. I have worked in laborious jobs since highschool. During my summer vacations I worked at a tire recycling yard alongside my father. However, in more recent years I have looked on my own for work. Whenever I am on break or have free time from college I look for work and save money for college.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
My most important goal is to become a Surgeon. Although I haven’t decided what I want to specialize in, I have shown interest in becoming a Neurosurgeon. One idea that interests me is to become a surgeon that travels the globe that way I can help others while also being able to experience many different perspectives of life. The best way that I can describe my motivation for wanting to become a surgeon is to say that I want to have a career where I can help people without having to worry about being able to financially support my family.
- Graduate school interests
One of my Goals is to attend one of the best Medical schools with a surgeon Program for example UCSF or John Hopkins University. Additionally I want to complete the MCAT test in my Junior year in order to apply to Medical school as soon as I can.
- Outside the classroom
One hobby that I enjoy outside of school and work is playing video games. My favorite games are always fast paced and quick thinking, but I also enjoy games that give the player creative freedom. I also enjoy going camping and swimming in various rivers in Corning during the summer.

Volunteering

I do volunteer work at this rescue shelter. Most of the work that I do is cleaning up and fostering various animals, mostly Dogs and Cats but occasionally we help possums, squirrels, and other small animals. I also help at the veterinarian side of the rescue. It's mostly clean up and inventory but occasionally I help with small injuries that involve cleaning the injuries and stitches.
