About

I am a 41-year-old man with lived experience with the disease of addiction. I am also a person in long-term recovery. I am immersed in the local recovery community and of service to this community. I am the Vice President on the board for Universal Recovery Services in Kenai, Alaska. I have been a chemical dependency counselor at Central Peninsula Hospital and Serenity House Treatment Center for the past three years. I am also an alumnus of this program. I love what I do and where I am doing it.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I aim to become an LPC to be of maximum service to God, my community, and the evergrowing mental health crisis. In my small community, many options are available for suitable substance treatment. However, most of our population is co-occurring, and many others only have mental health disorders. This population is in dire need of additional mental health options. The director of my program and I dream of opening a local mental health facility to address these issues and give our people the best care possible.

Graduate school interests

I aim to gain a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am doing this all online as I do not have the opportunity to attend school and not work full-time. My wife and daughter need my income to support our family. School has been one of the greatest gifts I have been given, and I share the knowledge I gain with everyone I come into contact with.

Outside the classroom

Hunting, fishing, and exploring the wildlife of Alaska and taking long drives with the family to see many of the state's beautiful sites. I love volunteering with the local recovery community and its many members. I am a retired chef and enjoy cooking for my family. I also love to decompress with a good video game.
