About

I have had some bumps in the road while attending college, sometimes reflected in my grades. I started my journey in education after moving to Seattle after I graduated from Okanogan Jr./Sr. High school. I attended community college in Seattle at Seattle Central Community College, and graduated from Shoreline Community College, more than a decade after I first attended. I am a single parent to a 19 year old son, and also a five year old son, and caretaker of my 80 year old mother. We live in a small town where I work as a secratary at a mechanics shop, and I also tend bar on the weekends. I love being able to attend a university online, which is the only way that it would be possible for me to complete my education.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Where I see myself working is a treatment center for youth, or somewhere within the juvenile justice system, helping kids who have no guidance from parental units, or without anyone fighting for their best interests. I want to be part of the change that needs to happen in the context of youth offenders, and addicts, as they often are hand in hand. I belong to the Colville Confederated Tribe where there is almost no resources for the youth in terms of rehabilitation, and working towards an exit out of the justice system before they are adults facing prison sentences and become institutionalized. I want to work towards making the troubled youth in our society people who we want as our neighbors and friends, and ridding them of labels that often turn into self fulfilled prophecies.

Graduate school interests

I would like to work towards a masters degree at some point, maybe after I have found a stable job in my choosin profession. I hear WSU has amazing grad school programs!

Outside the classroom

I enjoy riding horses as often as I can. Swimming in lakes during the summer, camping, and road trip adventures!
