About
Within the years of my education, I have discovered the importance of community. In this discovery, I have attempted to evaluate what makes up the type of community where I see myself thriving. This consists of an environment that fosters a space in which I am valued and accepted, provides opportunities for me to explore and grow, and is a place that is always challenging me to strive towards excellence and accountability. I believe college provides this community I’m looking for while challenging me to become the best version of myself.
College is an environment that not only fosters but encourages a community where students can immerse themselves in various subjects. I have an interest in studying food within communities specifically in terms of food deserts and the accessibility of fresh produce in underprivileged communities. I have spent time volunteering for organizations that attempt to make fresh produce accessible for urban communities. Also, I am interested in learning about African American history and social justice to further understand my identity and help others around me. College will assist me in this learning with classes like Black Cultural Studies, Urban Ethnography and Social Justice, and Global Food Economy. I plan to be committed to service and learning while obtaining an enriching education, and enthusiastically engage myself in my college’s community.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
From the depths of my childhood, my parents have instilled in me the values of pride, consisting of accountable leadership skills and excellence. These values have resonated through me as I have prided myself on being a community leader and enforcing accountability in my community. I would like to delve into a program of Afroamerican and African Studies to reflect on my own identity and address my ultimate goal of environmental change. I would like to study the environment in terms of race, driving me to understand the policy and how I can make a change through the environment and my identity. The university community I will attend will provide me with immense support with interdisciplinary courses. I am attracted to the Political Science, Environmental, and Afro-American studies programs because they convey the excellence and leadership components of pride in one’s community and the improvement of its people, and would uniquely craft me into an agent for change.
