About

My name is Alexis Verbin and I am currently a senior at the Pennsylvania State University, Berks Campus. I major in Applied Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. My areas of interest include Counseling Psychology, Well-being and Positive Psychology, Substance Abuse, and Abnormal Psychology and how they are strongly correlated with those who are in the Criminal Justice System. I am extremely hard-working, dedicated, ambitious, passionate, and organized individual who is always looking for new avenues to learn and expand my knowledge. When any opportunity presents itself I always go after what it has to offer. I love to continuously absorb new information in order to enhance my education and build myself both as a better student and an individual.

Goals and interests

Career goal

After I graduate from Penn State I plan to enter into a Doctoral PhD program in the field of Counseling Psychology. I am currently researching doctoral programs to find one that will best fit me and provide me with the best education before I graduate in December 2016. I plan to take on education, research, and a job with the university I will attend. I will be looking to obtain a Teaching Assistant position while in the program. My intentions are to be able to practice and run my own class in order to apply for a university professor position when I finish my PhD. My ultimate goal is to be a professor and teach all of the information and knowledge I have learned and experienced to undergraduate students in the field of Psychology and Criminal Justice.

Graduate school interests

Although I am looking to attend a PhD program in Psychology I have also researched graduate school programs as well. I am interested in the Counseling and Mental Health programs at both University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). They contain both research and education components in which I am looking for as a student. I am registered to attend the Open House and Information Sessions for these schools as well. I also will be looking into more programs at both the Master's Degree and PhD levels.

Outside the classroom

I am involved in the Criminal Justice Club on campus and have been previously a member of the Lethal Entertainment Club for fashion on campus. I enjoy reading and spending time outside. I also love to cook and bake on my free time. I also do free-lance work as a makeup artist for those who live in my community. I really love doing makeup for others as well as hair styling. I am also always looking for internship and learning opportunities which relate to Psychology and Criminal Justice
