About

I am an older college student that began school in the mid 1980s. I was not as dedicated then as I am now due to many circumstances but primarily due to no one ever telling me I was smart or you can do this. I learned via my own self reflection that there is more to life than being "cute". I worked my way into a career with the Kentucky Department of Education auditing schools on a team basis across the state. I later moved to Kansas and became the Social Services Director of The Salvation Army where I further collaborated with families to reach goals of self sufficiency. Throughout both of these careers I promoted education at all levels as a means of self reliance. In 2013 I resigned from my position, returned to serving tables and bar-tending so that I could return to school full time as I felt like a hypocrite for promoting education as the setting for others goals while not having completed my degree. . I found that my age did not cooperate with the need for standing on my feet the majority of my evenings. I returned to the workforce as a Director of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations of a hotel in Manhattan, Kansas. I am currently employed in this facet, work full time, attend Kansas State University full, and server on the board of Purple Power Play as the Vice President and vendor coordinator. Purple Power Play is a nonprofit community organization that hosts a community wide event supporting the kickoff of KState Football season. The event promotes community support of the university by providing a location for athletes, coaches, and fans to connect in a festival settings allowing businesses and organizations to promote their own wares or services. I have 3 children. My oldest is a college graduate working on his masters. The other two are sophomores in college. One attends the University of Kansas and the other Fort Hays State University. We are a family of "college kids".

Goals and interests

Career goal

In being an older student I do not have an "intended path". My goals are different as my desire has been to complete my education for personal goals. I may choose to venture into my field of study but only if it leads me to the exact career I would love. I am passionate about criminal investigation, trauma survivors, and public relations. I am a believer in my personal saying..."at the end of the day, it's all about the people." Training companies management on how to relate to employees, consumers, and balancing life with secular goals while promoting families is an ultimate goal. Motivating other to return to school while working as a motivational speaker is a dream job.

Graduate school interests

I will either continue my education at Kansas State University while working on my masters or further my education at the best school for my intended studies, yet to be determined. Sociological Marketing, marketing to the consumer on an emotional level while reaching the target in a compassionate way.
